Good Card But Outdated - Get a 9500 May 19, 2010 Kort Kramer (South Florida, USA) The GeForce 8500GT 512MB is a good little graphics card. If you can get one for under 50 bucks for a low to mid range system and don't plan on playing the latest 3D intensive games, then it is a good choice. I recently put one in my son's home-built system and it runs everything really well. Great clarity, very responsive, quiet. It doesn't have problems running video and games for hours on end though it can get a bit warm if you don't have a well ventilated case. Luckily we do.
However, this is now an obsolete card. The much more powerful GeForce 9500 1GB is right now selling for less than the 8500GT so unless your computer is older and has a compatibility issue with it, the 9500 is currently the "value for performance" card to get.
Works. March 3, 2010 Shane Seckler (Chuckey, Tennessee United States) Works well, runs a little hot compared to my old one (an exact replacement)
The new fan design doesn't seem to be as efficient, but It's never "bogged down", so I guess it's okay.
They don't even pretend that this model has the SLI integration; the "tab" isn't even built onto the board.
It's the cheapest model of the 8000 series, so no biggie.
It's also obsolete now.
If I had known that, I would have replaced it with a newer model for less.
Ah well, live and learn. It performs well, at least.
PNY replacement warranty October 18, 2009 Kevin Glaser (CT) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Reputable name brand, excellent service and support months after the sale. I had a PNY video card fail and they shipped me a new one under warranty. I had a very positive experience with the PNY product and would buy again. After receiving my replacement I thought the least I could do is write a good review for this company.
Great replacement to integrated graphics for the price! October 16, 2009 Christopher Foundas (New York, USA) My desktop was getting on in years, and so rather than purchase a new one I decided to make some low-cost upgrades. Among them, I upgraded the RAM from 512MB to 2.5GB (thank you Crucial!) for around $[...] and when I spotted this on clearance at the local Staples for $[...] I figured it couldn't hurt. The computer had a very dated Intel graphics card, and while it technically could play DVDs and most low-end video games, I knew it would be functionally obsolete before long without some kind of improvements.
I installed the newest version of the drivers from Nvidia, and threw the card in. The computer recognized it immediately, and I was instantly blown away by how crisper the desktop image looked. I knew it had been slightly fuzzy, since my HP Pavilion laptop had a Nvidia GPU and there was a noticeable difference between them. Seeing that level of clarify on my 20" monitor really let me know I had done the right thing.
Just so it gets said, I'm not much of a gamer. I might play GuildWars ever now and then, but thats about it. Still, even for that its a huge improvement over its predecessor, loading things much more quickly, and displaying them at a much higher quality than was capable before.
Worked well for a while August 23, 2009 SuperSport (CA USA) This card worked well for quite a while, but eventually, the fan failed which caused the board to overheat and die. I keep my computer VERY clean, so dirt should not have been the culprit. I clean it regularly with compressed air.
I replaced it with a fanless ATI HD4350 and have not looked back. My new card works much better, and was cheaper.
