One of the great things about this type of book - when you really need it because you are hurting so much and feel so alone - is that you derive some comfort from the fact that you're going through something that millions have gone through before and, for the most part, survived. Each major element of the rebuilding process is taken in turn, and while you may or may not appreciate the "building block" metaphor it serves ably enough to structure the book in bite-sized pieces. Everyone will find some resonance here and there, and equally I suspect most people will find gaps they will need to explore more using other resources. To that end the bibliography and list of useful websites is a great resource, and of course there's always the Internet. Personally I found the chapter on sexuality to be the least informed and the least helpful (because the most squeamish), but the book is oriented to an American audience so the treatment is probably appropriate for the vast majority of readers. All in all, this is a very good primer for the basics of how to get yourself back into reasonable emotional shape after the awful trauma of a break-up, and as such should definitely be close to hand during the worst times.

Birds are used to demonstrate what can become of the "dumpee". In essence, the "dumper" has already moved on, possibly long before they actually dump their partners. This book is like a "dumpee's bible"; to take heart, rebuild and move on too. Fisher also teaches the dumpee to choose well, test before trusting any relationship, even reconciliations.
"Turkey", describes the dumpee who doesn't move on. They are also unable to climb the figurative montain of challenge, to become an "Eagle", that can fly off the mountain.They must be a healthy eagle, before they can attract another eagle-partner. Conversely, a turkey will end up with another turkey.
Reccommended not only for divorces but all relationships that end or reconcile. An invaluable guide for those willing to do the hard work.

Great read for those who recently had a relationship end. The book explained not only my feelings, but I also explained what my ex was going through and why she likely acted the way she did. The book really helped make sense of all this upheval in my life and help me place things into proper perspective. If you just ended a relationship and are looking for insights and answers, then this book is a must read.
